Sensory Garden

A beautiful garden has a wide appeal, and it can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age or disability. Naturally, landscapes are sensory, but our Sensory Garden provides more.

Sensory Garden

It connects our service users to nature, a calming space, yet stimulating and engaging their senses of sight smell, touch, and sound, leading to a greater well-being. Flowers and plants are aesthetically beautiful, their touch-appealing textures and other garden features all add up to maximise the impact on the service users’ senses.

We believe that our sensory garden is very therapeutic for our service users as a calming place to gently stimulate their senses. It is a staff-supervised secluded space where our service users feel safe and comfortable exploring their senses without feeling overwhelmed. While in the garden, they are encouraged by staff to touch, smell, and generally interact with the environment around them. We found this to be beneficial for our service users with sensory processing conditions like autistic spectrum condition and for those with other disability, the sensory garden is beneficial in that it is a fun educational tool that allows them to explore and learn about their senses and nature.
