Our Service Users

Many of our service users have a profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD). This is when a person has a severe learning disability and other disabilities that significantly affect their ability to communicate and be independent, for example, difficulties seeing, hearing, speaking, and moving. They may have complicated health and social care needs due to these or other conditions.

Our team have the experience and training to support service users with complex needs, comorbidity, challenging behaviours and speech, and language difficulties. We work closely with health and social care professionals specialising in a wide range of clinical specialities to support service users with various medical conditions or diagnoses, such as:

  • Learning Disability

  • Autism

  • Mental Health

  • Prader-Willi Syndrome

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Service Users’ Needs Profile/Picture

There is no such thing as a “typical service user”, as people are different in many ways. At the earliest past of our work, we want to know our service users and understand their needs capabilities and strengths. Hence our strength-based Model of Care delivery. Our service users’ population is significantly mixed, with care needs ranging widely from low to severe and complex, with variable degrees of dependency on staff or others for support.

As part of our placement assessments, we undertake a comprehensive screening exercise using our unique Dependency Rating Scale which comprises an 80-point scoring rating (DRS-80) that provides insight into the service user’s support needs and underscores their level of dependency.

This process enables us to determine the service user’s suitability for placement and compatibility with other service users in the proposed placement, in addition to the specific medical conditions or diagnosis of the individual service user.
